Artificial intelligence is one of those issues that touches all social and economic fields, including the field of education.

The role of artificial intelligence in advancing and enhancing education

Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO, believes: "Artificial intelligence will bring fundamental changes to the field of education.

AI can help accelerate progress towards global education goals by reducing barriers to learning, automating administrative processes and providing better ways to improve learning outcomes.

In this sense, the next Mobile Learning Week, which will take place from 4 to 8 March 2019, will focus on the topic of artificial intelligence and its impact on sustainable development. It should be noted that Mobile Learning Week is organized over five days at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, as it is presented with a rich and varied program interspersed with numerous conferences, workshops and practical presentations. This year, approximately 1,200 interested parties registered to attend the event, providing a unique opportunity for academia, government and other players in the region to discuss educational opportunities as well as the risks posed by artificial intelligence. It may appear in this area.

Discussions held this week will focus on 4 main themes:

Ensure fair and equitable access to AI and its applications in education, and take necessary steps to address disparities based on socioeconomic status, gender, race, and geographic location, and promote successful AI-based projects and effective solutions to identify and remove barriers preventing marginalized and disadvantaged groups from accessing quality education.

Using artificial intelligence to improve the teaching and learning process

Improve education management systems, AI-based learning management systems, and other applications of AI in education, and identify new forms of personalized learning to assist teachers and address challenges facing the education sector.

Upskilling the skills needed to live and work in the age of artificial intelligence

Support the process of developing relevant strategies and policies at local, regional and international levels, examine the readiness of policymakers and other education leaders and actors, and examine the role of artificial intelligence and assistive technology in skills development and innovation in advanced devices.

Ensuring that educational data is used in a transparent and auditable manner

Consider mitigating the risks posed by AI in education, identifying concrete evidence to develop policies that ensure transparency and accountability, and employ algorithms that are transparent and clear to educational participants.

UNESCO will hold a Global Conference on Artificial Intelligence on Monday 4 March during Mobile Learning Week. The purpose of the conference was to raise awareness of artificial intelligence and related technologies and their development, as well as the risks associated with them, and to seek to mitigate these risks, particularly with regard to requirements for transparency and accountability. Titled "Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Development," the conference will explore the potential of artificial intelligence in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
